Save West Sussex! - Local Government Reorganisation

Residents and businesses in West Sussex are currently served by a two-tier system of local government. The County Council is responsible for services such as:

  • adults’ and children’s social care
  • maintaining roads
  • primary and secondary schools

The 7 district and borough councils in West Sussex are responsible for services such as:

  • rubbish collection
  • housing and planning
  • environmental health

The Government have instigated top-down reforms of local government structure, in which many advocate splitting the existing West Sussex County Council into two separate organisations. An official consultation ends this coming Sunday, the 11th January.

Please tell me what you think by answering this short survey:

Save West Sussex! - Local Government Reorganisation

How much did you previously know about the proposals to split our county?
What is your preference for local government reorganisation?
Leave the county council, district and borough councils as they are.
Effectively a ‘one stop shop’ keeping our county together.
These would comprise one council made up of the current districts of Adur, Arun, Chichester and Worthing and another council made up of the current districts of Crawley, Horsham, and Mid Sussex. Each with their own town hall, chief executive and officers.
Do you think rural areas will face greater challenges in accessing services and funding if local government becomes more centralised and remote?
As a council tax payer, do you think you will get better value for money from local government reorganisation, or do you think that the costs in delivering the programme would be better spent locally?
Are there any other comments you would like to make on the government proposals?
