The sunny weather provided the perfect setting for the official opening of Midhurst’s new community garden, Curfew Garden, and local MP Andrew Griffith was delighted to see the extraordinary efforts of volunteers who have brought this new project to life.
The enclosed garden is located by The Old Library and was formally opened by Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex Lady Emma Barnard on Friday 22nd May, joined by Andrew Griffith MP, Midhurst Town Council Chairman Richard Watts, project lead Councillor Danielle Martin, town and district councillors, residents and volunteers.
The garden has been supported with grants from The National Lottery Community Fund and Chichester District Council and is now a space for everyone to enjoy. It is filled with plants to enhance local biodiversity, vegetable patches, and an accessible pathway. The new garden will provide a therapeutic space, volunteering opportunities and skills development, and a harvest of food to share with the community.
Andrew enjoyed a tour of the garden to see the different areas that have been landscaped and carefully planted, and he enjoyed speaking to the many local residents who have been working on the project.
Andrew Griffith said:
“Congratulations to everyone involved in creating Midhurst’s Curfew Garden which is an inspiring addition to the special town of Midhurst. I know that projects like these take patience and time, so it was wonderful to see the final results. The garden is a tranquil place for everyone to enjoy, and its harvest of crops will support the Community Hub.”
