As we welcome a New Year, I would like to wish everyone across Arundel & South Downs a happy, healthy and prosperous 2025. The start of January is always a moment to pause and reflect on the year just gone, on what we have achieved together, and on the challenges that still lie ahead. Despite the many uncertainties of the past year, I remain optimistic about the strength, resilience and common sense of the community in West Sussex.
Over the last twelve months, it has been a privilege to work alongside residents, businesses, charities and volunteers who quietly make a real difference every day. From supporting local high streets and family businesses, to backing community groups, schools and care organisations. I have been fortunate to have been able to see first hand how much can be achieved when people pull together. I am also immensely proud that I have been able to help constituents in need navigate issues such as energy bills, planning concerns and access to public services remains at the heart of my work as your Member of Parliament.
Nationally, however, the past year has not been without its frustrations. The Labour government has pursued policies that risk undermining growth, burdening enterprise and taking aim at rural life. Decisions affecting farmers, the countryside and our high streets have too often been made without proper consultation or regard for local consequences. These choices have created uncertainty where stability is needed most.
Looking ahead to the year before us, my priorities remain clear. I will continue to stand up for jobs, investment and aspiration, while holding the government to account where its policies threaten our economy, communities or way of life. At the same time, I remain hopeful that ministers will listen, reflect and, where necessary, change course on measures that risk damaging the country.
As we begin this New Year, I want to thank everyone who contributes so much to our community, and I look forward to working with everyone throughout 2025.
