Earlier today I appeared on BBC Sussex to support an important campaign fighting for increased sentencing for drunk drivers.
Last year, a constituent tragically lost her son, Aidan, due to an intoxicated driver on the wrong side of the road. He had previously been suspended from driving and this heart-breaking incident highlighted a weakness in the law in relation to repeat offenders. When initial sentences do not act as a deterrent, they need to be strengthened.
Tracy, Aidan’s mother, is fighting for justice and has launched a petition I spoke about calling for change. Anyone convicted of causing death by drink driving would never be allowed to hold a driving license again.
