MP for Midhurst, Andrew Griffith, has launched a survey of Midhurst residents seeking their views on what should happen next on the The Angel Inn Hotel site in the centre of North Street, Midhurst.
The MP has also expressed his deep concern about the length of time this matter is taking and called for statutory bodies to use all powers possible – up to and including compulsory purchase if necessary – to step in and resolve what appears to be deadlock after three years.
The survey which is available via his website www.andrewgriffith.uk asks residents their views on:
- Whether, if necessary, Chichester District Council should use its compulsory purchase powers to intervene – and how quickly
- Their preferred balance between a quick solution and a painstaking conservation of the original features of the Hotel
- How best to deal with any potential further disruption or road closures
Andrew Griffith MP said:
“It’s time for action. The lack of progress to clear and remedy the site has been deeply felt by residents and businesses alike. And after three years, it is simply unacceptable.
Important decisions are coming, and my survey seeks residents views so that I can represent them clearly with the various public bodies who need to act to save our town.”
