Andrew Griffith MP has fired back after today's latest Statement to the House of Commons on Local Government Reorganisation in West Sussex.
Commenting on today’s announcement from Steve Reed MP, Secretary of State for Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Andrew Griffith MP said:
“I welcome that as a result of opposition from myself and others, the government has at least postponed the breakup of West Sussex today.
This whole proposal was costly and an unnecessary distraction and should now be shelved entirely.
The Labour government and our Lib Dem-led councils have embarrassed themselves by trying to smash up tradition in their own political self-interest but now let’s hope that the whole thing is behind us.
The MP who has led the charge to oppose the break up of West Sussex added:
“Over 2,000 West Sussex residents signed my petition at https://www.savewestsussex.org/ with their replies being sent to the Department of Housing and Local Government to register their opposition.”
